Anxiety Coping Hacks

Pause and Listen: Take a few minutes to listen to the sounds around you. What do you hear? Are they loud or soft? Try to focus on sounds you haven't noticed before. Pay special attention to anything that stands out to you. This could be anything from the air conditioning in the background to the cars going by.

Deep Breaths: Take slow, deep breaths through your nose. Hold the air in your lungs for a few seconds before releasing it through your lips as if you were blowing through a straw. Repeat this process for at least a couple minutes.

Think of a Happy Memory: This could be anything from a childhood memory of eating ice cream to the last fun get-together with your best friends. Basically, anything that makes you feel calm, happy, and comfortable. Orienting your mind at this time to positive feelings helps you break the cycle of anxious thoughts

  • Write down your thoughts: Write about what is causing you to worry. You can use these questions as a guide:

  • What are you worried about?

  • What do you do when you're feeling anxious?

  • Can you think of a time when you worried about something similar and what happened?

Go for a Walk/Run: Exercise is a powerful stress reducer. Find a way to release your energy by being active. You could play a sport, ride a bike, dance, swim, go for a walk, or just run around until you're tired.
